Located between Westport Primary and Westport High Schools on the Oxley Highway, this is the oldest vineyard and oldest timber building in the Hastings region.
Founded in 1859, the homestead has been lived in by four generations of the one family for 132 years.
It is now heritage listed under the Port Macquarie/Hastings Council and is also listed under National Trust.
The Douglas Vale Conservation Group is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of this unique property and it is the only completely run volunteer homestead and vineyard in the southern hemisphere.
At Douglas Vale you have the opportunity of wine tasting and tours of the homestead and the beautiful grounds that boast a pond, cottage and rose garden.
There is also an amazing selection of fruit trees, pineapples and a wonderful vegetable garden.
The 150 year-old enormous bamboo adorning the entrance has to be seen to be believed.
Open every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 3pm the friendly volunteers are always willing to welcome groups.
Open days incorporating all day entertainment, attractions, stalls, free wine tasting and tours, tasty food etc are held twice a year in April and October.
