Macquarie were unlucky in a three-wicket defeat to Port City last weekend, but their performance against Wauchope backed up president Michael Pelley’s thoughts seven days ago – they had turned the corner.
Hyde compiled an unbeaten 42 while Pelley provided the perfect foil with a composed 31 as Macquarie cruised to a seven-wicket victory.
It wasn’t without the odd hiccup as their pursuit of 134 didn’t start well when Chris Cole lost his middle stump with the first ball.
Port City Leagues Magpies snuck home by 13 runs in a tight contest with Taree United.
After being sent in, Magpies were bowled out for 140 in the 40th over with Sean Minns topscoring with 62.
Minns and Clint Cocking (21) put on a valuable 67-run partnership for the seventh wicket which ultimately proved the difference.
In reply, United were all out for 127 with Adam Broderick claiming the two vital wickets of openers Dean Mills and Matthew Collier.
Brendan Badenoch (3-19 off eight overs) was again in amongst the wickets while Evan Lipovac (2-19 off five), Charles Adnum (1-16) and Zac Jones (1-33) also chipped in.
The win consolidates Port City’s position in the top four.
