We all need to be regularly reminded and the bells will do that.
Sadly there is a big error in the article. It is reported that the Member for Cowper said that the LNP 'inherited' in September 2013, 8,000 children in detention.
That number is so far off the facts as stated by the current PM when he was Minister for Immigration, as to be laughable - except that some readers might believe it.
Monthly statistics published by the Department of Immigration and the Parliamentary Library show 1,773 children were in detention at the end of August 2013.
In late August 2013, Mr Morrison noted that the Labor government was releasing children from detention.
The number of children in detention fell to 1,165 at the end of September 2013.’
The word ‘detention’ includes those in on-shore detention and those off-shore.
There is good news in seeing the Member for Cowper scrambling to cloak himself in what he hopes are the political good vibes of looking after children, now that he and the LNP have worked out that voters have never liked children in detention.
The suffering children will eventually be better off than for the past 5 years, because of that sudden realisation by the LNP.
Having worked it out, then the LNP votes which might go to an independent need to be addressed, thinks your local member?
It is hard though when the LNP has spent its time over the last 5 years trying to attract One Nation and like voters. We can be forgiven for being cynical.
