Lorraine Moore and Lorraine Beveridge have been volunteering for 10 of the nursery’s 13 year history and nursery manager Estelle Gough said the pair “are the backbone of the place”.
“We are so glad to have their help and assistance each week at the nursery and they are an integral part of the team,” Ms Gough said.
“They have been part of the group nearly since the beginning and have seen the nursery grow and expand into the beast it is today.
“From humble beginnings with just one greenhouse we now have a significant operation and sell native plants to the local community as well as grow the plants needed for our projects in the local area.”
Mrs Moore and Mrs Beveridge both said they were delighted by the long service award.
“We love coming to the nursery each week because it is such a friendly and happy place to volunteer,” Mrs Moore said.
“We all love gardening and helping the environment and it is so great to share that with people who feel the same way.
“Over the years we have seen so many people come and go but the passion for helping the environment stays with us all.”
“Everyone is land conscious and it is great to share our love of the garden with people,” Mrs Beveridge said.
“We have members of the public come and buy plants and when I drive around Port Macquarie it is wonderful to see it looking so nice thanks to the work of volunteers like us and the hard working field volunteers.
“Getting this achievement is really lovely but a big thanks must go to everyone in Landcare and especially Estelle who make it such a lovely place to volunteer.”
Estelle Gough said the pair now bring lifetime memberships in the organisation to 29.
“We are so proud and glad to have so many dedicated volunteers who come back each week, fornight or month to help us help our local environment,” she said.
“I know they both say they love coming to help at the nursery and it really shows in their enthusiasm and love for what they do.”
