The project to resurface Hastings River Drive between Aston Street and the Hastings River Drive/Newport Island Road roundabout will go ahead at night from November 18.
The night work, which will take place between 7.30pm and 4am, aims to minimise disruption to traffic flow and maintain access to nearby businesses.
Hastings River Drive will generally remain open under changed traffic conditions, however, detours will be required as works progress through the Clifton Drive roundabout.
The resurfacing is planned to be complete on December 7 before the NSW State Cup gets underway.
It follows the opening of a roundabout at the Hastings River Drive and Newport Island Road intersection.
In another project, road rehabilitation works in Bellbowrie and Bay streets are scheduled to begin after Easter 2019.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council director Jeffery Sharp said both Bellbowrie and Bay streets had been in the council’s longer term thinking for some time.
He said the rehabilitation work would provide the longevity which the council was after that tied in with other improvements.
Meanwhile, the council is working to finalise concept designs and move into the detailed design phase for the upgrade of Hastings River Drive between Hughes Place and Boundary Street.
A roundabout proposed at Hibbard Drive west would also serve Hamilton Green.
The Hastings River Drive upgrade between Hughes Place and Boundary Street is subject to future funding availability.
Meanwhile, representatives from the council, contractor Ditchfield Contracting and nearby businesses gathered on November 12 for the official opening of the Hastings River Drive and Newport Island Road roundabout.
Nearby business owner Teale Bryan said he had already seen improvements in safety and traffic flow at the intersection thanks to the $2.7 million project.
“It’s a great result and it’s a much nicer looking entrance to Port Macquarie,” he said.
The roundabout opened to traffic on November 2.
Mayor Peta Pinson thanked Ditchfield Contracting and council staff for their work on the project, as well as the nearby businesses for their patience.
