Teachers Elynne Toft from Tacking Point Public School and Catherine Grootenboer from St Columba Anglican School said the education program was great for all local students.
“I have been bringing students to see plays and performances at the Glasshouse since the building opened,” Ms Toft said.
“It is a chance for the students to step away from their screens and actually see a performance in real life.
“It is that connection with the real world that live performances have over a movie or something viewed on a screen.
“For a lot of students – especially in primary school – this is potentially the first time they have come to a live show and so the whole experience of leaving school and coming to the theatre is wonderful for them.”
Performances on offer in 2019 include The Gruffalo live on stage, A Gala Night at the Ballet and performances by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Ms Grootenboer said it was great the Glasshouse could bring a wide range of different productions to students in the Hastings.
“For us coming to the Glasshouse is great because the students get to see some great performances in their own town,” Ms Grootenboer said.
“The calibre of performances coming to Port Macquarie means our students are getting the same opportunities their city cousins get.
“The amazing immediacy of watching a play or performance is something that can’t be replicated in another way and exposing all our students to it is something we take seriously.”
Bec Washington, event services coordinator at the Glasshouse said more than 12,000 students have come to see performances, workshops and exhibitions since the building opened.
“We are really passionate about bring world class shows and performances to children across the Hastings and wider along the Mid North Coast,” Ms Washington said.
“In 2019 we will have a biggest program yet with a wide range of events and professional development opportunities for students of all ages and their teachers.”
