Maddi Baxter, Monique Rudder, Ella Handley, Chloe Eichmann, Bridget Williams and Prada Hanlon all played their part as Port Macquarie claimed the under-17 girls Seaside Classic.
Baxter and Rudder led from the front as Port Macquarie registered a 29-19 victory over Bellinger Valley in last Sunday’s final.
Williams finished the match on the bench due to suffering an injury to her wrist after a heavy fall, but she will be fit for the tournament which starts in Sydney on Monday.
Regional College manager Janine Handley said they would field a similar team in this year’s 9/10 division to the one that made the semi-finals in the 7/8 division.
“We won the regional titles last term against Coffs Harbour who won the state title last year comfortably,” she said.
Such an encouraging result has the team confident of at least a semi-final position when the tournament tips off.
Handley said the team had trained a couple of times a week both at school and at club level.
Regional will play at least four games before the finals throughout the two-day event.
They have been drawn in a pool featuring St Mary Star of the Sea College, Wollongong, Gilroy College from Castle Hill and St Pius X College, Adamstown.
