Meteorologist with weatherzone Brett Dutschke says the showers being experienced during Thursday morning will clear by lunchtime.
He says any rainfall after noon is likely to be brief and sparse.
"Progressively through the day, the cloud will move away and the rest of the day will feature increasing sunshine," he said.
"It will be a reasonably sunny end of the day."
However, the remaining southerly winds will be on the brisk side reaching 30 to 40 kilometres per hour at Port Macquarie.
Offshore winds will reach 30 to 35 knots.
"The winds will drop off from late afternoon or evening," Mr Dutschke said.
Seas and swell will be between 2 to 3 metres but will start to drop off in the evening.
The maximum temperature today for Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Laurieton will be 21 degrees.
With the clearer skies on Thursday night, Friday's minimum will only get to 12 degrees, which is about two degrees below the average.
Friday will be mostly sunny reaching a maximum of 22 or 23 degrees, although there will be increasing cloud during the day.
In terms of winds, the start of the day will feature "pretty gentle south westerlies" before turning moderate and easterly during the day.
"The winds are likely to be more onshore and it will bring a bit of cloud too," Mr Dutschke added.
Winds will reach 20km/h and offshore up to about 15 knots.
Sea and swell will be dropping off but will remain a bit bumpy in the morning at about 2.5 metres.
In some good news, the weekend minimum and maximum temperatures will be around the average for this time of the year - 14 degrees and 24 degrees.
There is a small chance of the odd brief light shower most likely on Saturday afternoon or evening for Port Macquarie but more likely in Wauchope, Kendall and Kew.
Meanwhile all beaches in the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area are open today. Conditions are flat, at best.
