Meteorologist with weatherzone Graeme Brittain said the rain period was expected to realise between 10mm and 35mm of rain.

He said the heaviest falls of rain were likely to be between Port Macquarie and Forster on the Mid-North Coast.

"This rain will move in from the south west from early afternoon," he said.

"It will be quite warm ahead of change with humid conditions likely.

"The maximum temperature will top 29 degrees today.

"There is a low pressure trough bringing this rain and showers to the coast," he said.

Rain is likely to linger into Thursday.

Once the trough pushes through the Mid-North Coast the weather conditions are likely to be fresher late Thursday and into Friday.

Thursday's minimum temperature is 13 degrees with a maximum of just 21 degrees.

"As well, 40 to 50 kilometre per hour winds are predicted to push through Port Macquarie, particularly late in the day," Mr Brittain said.

Thursday and Friday's maximum temperatures are around four to five degrees below the average temperature for this time of the year.

"It will be noticeably cooler," the forecaster said.

Looking to the weekend, Mr Brittain said there was the chance of a shower on Saturday but these are more likely inland around Wauchope, Kendall and Kew.

We should see mostly sunny conditions with a minimum of 13 degrees and maximum reaching 24 degrees on Saturday, he said.

Sunday will feature a maximum of around 26 degrees.

The winds on the weekend are more likely to be sea breezes.

Out to sea, on Thursday the swell should be between 2 to 2.5 metres and potentially up to 3 metres late in the afternoon and evening.

"This swell will drop significantly into Friday and the weekend," Mr Brittain said.

There are no current weather warnings issued for the Mid-North Coast according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
