Turfing, landscaping and a path to The Westport Club were the final features of the revamp.
A three metre-wide foreshore pedestrian and cycle path opened in October.
Safety and accessibility has been improved with the construction of wider shared pathways, installation of lights, seats, shade trees, bubblers and bike racks.
Formalisation of parking has been provided and upgraded stormwater works have taken place.
The foreshore rock wall also received attention.
Port Macquarie mother Christine Nicholson gave the thumbs up to the end result.
“It [the path] is so nice and wide and it’s nice they have a path to the coffee window at The Westport Club,” she said.
Mrs Nicholson said the wider path was great with the pram and it provided enough space for cyclists, skateboarders and the like.
Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peta Pinson said the rejuvenation of Westport Park would mean more people could enjoy our popular coastal walk.
“The new 3m shared pathways are a great improvement, allowing walkers, runners and bike riders to all use the space without breaking stride or leaving the path,” she said.
“Improved parking also means access to Livvi’s Place playground is safer for young families and upgrades to seating, lighting and access to The Westport Club cafe now provides a much better experience for all park users.
“The community let us know what they wanted to see included, so to now see these ideas become reality is really exciting, and great news for local residents and visitors.”
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said Westport Park was a much-loved open space in our community and these improvements would only add to its popularity.
“One of the first things we did as a state government was to protect this space by dedicating Westport Park as public purpose for recreation and seven years later that is exactly what has been achieved and it’s why it is loved by locals and visitors alike,” she said.
“I congratulate the work of council staff for their efforts in delivering these improvements and I look forward to works to improve the rest of the coastal walk.”
The council allocated $556,000 to fund the Westport Park upgrade with an additional $240,000 contributed by the state government.
Westport Park is one of a number of upgrades planned for the coastal walk.
