NSW Police issued a statement on October 25 confirming an arrest had been made.
A 46-year-old man has been charged with armed robbery following investigations into the alleged hold-up of a hotel in Port Macquarie in 2006, a spokesperson from NSW Police told the Port News.
About 2.35am on Friday, December 22, 2006, a man allegedly armed with a blood-filled syringe, entered the hotel on Hay Street – just metres away from Port Macquarie police station, and threatened two staff members.
“It is alleged the man robbed the two male employees and stole money from the register before fleeing the scene.”
It was reported at the time the offender allegedly fled the scene with $1600 in cash.
Despite the Port Macquarie Police Command releasing the security footage of the incident and a full description of the alleged offender, the case has remained unsolved for 12 years.
Shortly before 5pm on August 22, 2018, a 46-year-old man from Cambridge Park, Western Sydney, presented to police at Penrith Police Station in relation to the incident.
“He was interviewed by police and following further inquiries with officers from Port Macquarie, police arrested the man and charged him at Penrith Police Station with armed robbery,” the spokesperson said.
The man was given conditional bail and will appear in Penrith Local Court on Tuesday November 13.
Port Macquarie Superintendent Paul Fehon said the arrest was good news for the local community.
“A man has now been charged in relation to this,” Superintendent Fehon said.
“It is a good that over time, police are able to solve serious crimes that happen in our community.”
