A Dunbogan man has thrown his support behind a Lake Cathie family who are raising money in an effort to enable their daughter to hear.

Four-year-old Willow Powick is set to travel to the USA for life-changing surgery on her ears in 2019.
Willow has a rare hearing condition called atresia, meaning she was born with no ear canals in both ears.
Don gave Willow’s mum Skye $1000 to put towards the surgery and the cost of getting the family overseas.
The cost of the procedure is expected to cost over $110, 000, which doesn’t include accommodation, flights or a hire car.
The operation to have Willow’s atresia repaired needs to be completed in two separate surgical procedures, six months apart.
Skye said she was overwhelmed by the generosity shown by Don.
“We need more people like him in the world,” she said.
At 91-years-old Don himself is going deaf.
“I was talking with a friend about it and raised the issue of how I would cope if I was completely deaf,” he said.
“The next day I saw the story about Willow in the paper.”
Don said he’s always tried to help people throughout his life.
“It’s a different world now,” he said.
“In the good old days you’d never do anyone a bad turn.”

The Camden Haven community is rallying behind the family and there is a Camden Haven Touch Day on October 28, where all proceeds will go to Willow and her family.
The event is at Laurieton Oval from 9am until 4pm.

Another fundraiser is on November 17 at the Laurieton United Services Club. Tickets will be $50 for a three course dinner and a complimentary drink.
