This is despite several delays in the work getting underway.
An original start date for demolition for September 1 was announced in July 2018. However, this was not met.
A Woolworths spokesperson indicated it was waiting on several council approvals to be finalised before work could start.
According to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council those approvals are required under the DA for demolition and include, section 68 stormwater drainage and Roads Act approval.
The supermarket operated on the site for close to 40 years and closed in 2012. It has remained vacant since it closed the doors.
The site on the corner of Short and William streets is considered a major entrance to the Port Macquarie CBD.
The site has fallen into a sorry state with at least one reported fire in the past 12 months. It has also been targeted by vandals.
The DA approval to demolish is subject to conditions including that the work be completed within three months of a start date.
In 2009, Woolworths were successful in a development application to demolish and re-develop the site.

The grocery giant also showed interest in the neighbouring Plaza Car Park.
However, after a public outcry, Woolworths removed itself from discussions over the possible purchase of the car park from the state government.
Despite the setback, a Woolworths spokesperson says work will start shortly.
"We remain on track to have the demolition of the building completed by the end of the year," the spokesperson said.
"Our contractor is ready to mobilise subject to final council permits issued under the development application."
The spokesperson confirmed that all contracts for the demolition work had been signed off, and neighbours to the vacant site had been informed the work was about to start.
"We are just waiting on council approvals. These approvals include fencing off the area," the spokesperson said.
