Model came second in the men's IR6 four minute endurance row on October 22. Aussie teammate Ben Farinazzo won the gold medal.
It's hard to imagine topping a podium result at the prestigious event, but just one day earlier Model was fortunate enough to sit down with Prince Harry.
He said the brush with royalty is one of his life highlights. He even convinced the prince to don a pair of budgie smugglers.
"Just to sit down with the Duke was amazing. He is a true gentleman," Model said.
"He was more interested in talking about us and our stories rather than himself. He has done amazing things for veterans and to say thank you to him was special.
"To get a laugh and a giggle out of him from the budgie smugglers, and for him to put them on, it just shows he's a good sport and a larrikin.
"I could relate to him on so many levels being an ex-service person himself."
Model was third across the line in the men's IR6 one minute sprint to win silver after a three-way race to the finish which ended in a dead heat between Farinazzo and the Ukraine’s Serhii Ilnytskyi.
He will now turn his focus to Thursday morning (October 25) where he will contest the 200 metre and 400 metre heats in athletics.
"I was super pumped to get out their in front of a home crowd. To see so many medals and personal bests, I'm very happy," he said.
"Invictus is such a great event and such a great platform for people such as myself.
"In the stadium the atmosphere was absolutely electric. You could barely help yourself think. The home crowd brought me home.
"To get up on the podium was a special moment for myself and my family. The medals aren't everything ... just getting to this was special."
Model joined the army as a rifleman in 2004 and was deployed overseas on peace keeping operations in 2006 and 2007. He was injured in East Timor in 2007 and medically discharged in 2008.
He sustained a spinal injury during operations to catch former Timorese rebel leader Alfredo Reinado.
Matthew’s wife and their 11-year-old twin boys are in the crowd to cheer him on.
