Port Macquarie Women’s Golf Club Breast Cancer Golf Day gets underway on Wednesday 31 October in a bid to help local women diagnosed with breast cancer.
The club’s annual Pink Day promises to be full of fun, offers some fantastic prizes and will be followed by a club house presentation featuring the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute’s Breast Cancer Nurse Specialist Joanne Woodlands, whose advice on the day may just save a life.
Next week’s charity day has attracted a local sponsor - KFC (Port Macquarie and Port Macquarie Service Centre.)
Franchise owner Fran Scutts, who is also a women’s golf club member, said she was delighted to be able to support the Pink Day.
“It was an easy decision to be involved. Last year’s Pink Day meant quite a lot to many of the women who supported the event. You never know when something like breast cancer will strike,” Ms Scutts said.
“My family has been a part of the Port Macquarie community for 27 years, so it’s a pleasure to be able to contribute to this important local event.”
Women’s Golf Club President Wendy Gordon said the decision to keep the donation local resonated with members who were thrilled to be able to offer much-needed help to a local cancer service focused on the care and recovery of local breast cancer patients.
“We go all out to support this cause as each of us has either lost a friend or relative to this disease or, on the brighter side, we are supporting someone who is recovering from surgery or is in remission from breast cancer. Keeping the donations in our area is paramount,” Mrs Gordon said.
It is so very important to share the breast cancer message.
- Joanne Woodlands
“The generous support of KFC and our golfers will ensure this year’s event will not only be plenty of fun, but it will bring friends together for a worthy cause – and of course there will be some fabulous prizes on offer.”
Breast Cancer Nurse Specialist Joanne Woodlands thanked the club for its support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“It is so very important to share the breast cancer message,” Ms Woodlands said.
“Not only will these generous ladies be supporting local breast cancer patients by participating in the charity golf day, but they might just hear some information that could save their life or that of a friend.
“This is a cancer that affects one in eight women,” Ms Woodlands said.
“Fortunately, we’ve come a long way in diagnosis, treatment and recovery over the past 10 years, and support from events such as the charity golf day mean we can continue to improve outcomes for breast cancer patients right here in Port Macquarie.”
Port Macquarie Women’s Golf Club will host its Breast Cancer Charity Golf Day on Wednesday 31 October at Port Macquarie Golf Club.
The shotgun start is 8am for 8.30am and cost is $17 a player.
Prizes will go to the best dressed pink team and to the first four teams, Nearest The Pin and more. Email Lyn Sentence atlynsentence@gmail.com for more information or contact club secretary Josie Mockford on 0400 449 744.
