The play, which relates the story of the party which travelled from Bathurst to Port Macquarie and then back to Sydney, is based on the book, I Went With John Oxley, by author Richard Grimmond.
The historic homestead and vineyard’s October open day coincided with the John Oxley bicentennial celebrations.
Douglas Vale Historic Homestead and Vineyard president Ron Hankin said the play really attracted the interest of all the history buffs.
The open day also included stalls, entertainment and the release of Douglas Vale’s 2018 villard blanc and the special John Oxley explorer red wine.
Hastings Auto Restorers members showcased their vintage, classic and veteran cars, while the Port Macquarie Astronomical Association also took part in the open day.
Douglas Vale is run by volunteers.
“A lot of people have been interested in the history of the place, particularly the history of the wines,” Mr Hankin said.
