The club is sending a small but dedicated team of masters' competitors along with a boat crew to compete in the Lifesaving World Championships to be held at Glenelg Beach, Adelaide.
The event is on from November 19 until 24.
To ensure the club members can compete, a fundraising night is being organised at the surf club on Friday October 26.
Hundreds of surf lifesaving competitors from around the world are expected to converge on the South Australian capital for the event.
The U/19s Ladies boat crew - The Boatettes - made up of Jesse Willis, Emma Eggins, Lucy and Grace Monaghan and swept by Steve Monaghan, will attempt to emulate the club's masters crew of Keith Charles, Craig Munro, Mark Hurrell and Greg Jamieson with sweep Wayne Gill, who won the World title in 2006.
Charles also won bronze in the flags that year.
Keith Charles is not rowing this time around but he will be a force to be reckoned with in the flags event in which he has previously won several state and national titles.
Another club legend who will be in attendance is George Fowler.
At over 80 years of age, George will be one of the oldest competitors in the 70+ age category where he was still holding his own on the sprint track and in the flag pit at last season’s state and national championships.
The team is rounded out by three ladies masters competitors - Gayl Ellis, Debra Gill-Bartlett and Elaine Walker.
The ladies will race in the water events, surf ski, board, surf swim, board rescue, ski relay as well as flags and beach sprint.
In order to help the team with travel and accommodation costs the club is holding a fundraising evening on Friday October 26 at Beaches at the Wauchope Bonny Hills surf club from 6pm.
Entry is $5 payable on arrival and there will be a silent auction with many exciting items generously donated by local businesses and club members.
