The headspace office on Short Street was a haven of activity and music as holiday makers and locals alike joined festivities to mark their special day.

Tanya Douglas from headspace Port Macquarie said the day was a great success.

“We have had so many people through this morning which has been fantastic,” Ms Douglas said.

“I actually think the rain has helped us with lots of people buzzing around town and with all our balloons out people have been curious about what is going on.

"We have had lots of positive conversations about what we do and what services we can provide or help with.

“What has also been really great is the fact that we have had lots of different ages through the doors. This means that conversations will continue after headspace day and that is great.”

She said headspace day is about breaking the stigma around talking about mental health.

“Good mental health is just so important and it is the little things like taking time out, getting a good night sleep and listening to music that can help,” she said.

“The theme for this year is add a little colour to your day and it is all about trying to find ways to not focus on the doom and gloom or grey of your life and finding the small things to brighten your life.”

Donna Judge said the community day is about the mental health organisation opening the doors and showing the wide range of services they can provide to young people.

“For us the open day is a chance for us to throw open the doors and show the community that we aren’t scary and we really just want to help as many young people as we can," Ms Judge said.

“The event has become an annual day for headspace and we have run events for the last three years.

“It is a chance for anyone who is curious about us to come and ask questions, have a look around and learn about our services.

“Even if they don’t need us now they might know someone who does or will do.”
