Kempsey has been hit with 17mm of rain in the last 24 hours, according to Weatherzone, along with a cold snap that is typically reserved for winter months. 

More showers are expected for Kempsey over the next few days with a 70 per cent chance of 1-5mm for Friday and a massive 90 per cent chance of 10-20mm on Saturday.

Sunday is expected to see the rain ease off slightly but still has a 90 per cent chance of 5-10mm.

Monday appears to be the last of the heavy rain with only a 70 per cent chance of 1-5mm.

Sunshine could potentially return early next week on Tuesday and Wednesday; however there is still the possibility of more rain to come with a 90 per cent chance of 5-10mm predicted for Monday and an 80 per cent chance of 1-5mm for Tuesday. 

South West Rocks has seen 25mm so far and is expecting more showers in the next few days, before potentially clearing up early next week as well. 

The most dangerous part of the storms appear to have passed, but emergency services are cautioning everyone to stay vigilant after the weather took a deadly turn up north when a large fig tree fell onto a cabin in the town of Federal, located near Byron Bay.

The 65-year-old occupant was found dead by emergency services after a concerned neighbour had called in the tree fall.
