THE weekend will be a wet one if forecasts come to fruition, with Weatherzone meteorologist Jacob Cronje saying the rain is here to stay.

More than 33 millimetres of rain fell overnight (from October 10 to 11) with showers expected to continue throughout the day intermittently.
"Port Macquarie and surrounds probably won't see anymore thunderstorms as the cold front pushes through and moves east," Mr Cronje said.
"They can expecting less than 10mm today after heavy overnight rainfall.
"Looking at what's to come, Port will see light coastal showers on Friday and Saturday (October 12 and 13), with heavier falls expected from Saturday with winds pushing north-easterly."
Another 10mm is possible on Sunday into Monday with the next seven days to bring constant fall, but nothing heavy.
Mr Cronje explained the south- easterly winds will push in cold air, making winds seem awfully chilly.
"Winds look to be 10 to 15 kilometres per hour, but gusts of up to 30kmph are possible," he said.
"The surf today will be between 1.5 and 2.5 metres, and to add insult to injury there is a southerly swell so conditions are very unsettled. That persistent wind pushing up the coast is contributing to that."
Lifeguards have closed Lighthouse and Lake Cathie beaches as a result, sighting dangerous surf conditions.
Michael Ward unit commander with NSW SES Port Macquarie said despite the rain they had no call outs due to the stormy weather.
"For us it was a quiet night and we didn't receive any call outs from the storm," he said.
"I think it was probably a combination of the storm being not as severe as we thought but also as we move into the storm season people are taking a proactive approach and ensuring their houses are as safe as they can be."
He said as we move further into the storm season taking steps to ensure houses are protected is a must.
"People should remember to clear out their gutters, tie down any lose objects outside the house and also keep pets inside during stormy weather," he said.
"And as always if there are any problems give the SES a call on 132 500."
Wet weather has forced organisers to postpone the Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre Family Fun Day and Community Services Expo.
The event was to take place on October 11 at Westport Park.
The neighbourhood centre now plans to stage the family fun day and community services expo in the January school holidays at a date to be confirmed.
