FIRST it was on, then it was off and now it’s back on again.
Wet weather has played havoc with organisers plans to hold this weekend’s Champions League Basketball 3X3 competition in Port Macquarie.
The event will now take place at Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus.
Port Macquarie Basketball Association director Mark Newman said three-on-three Champions League Basketball was the latest craze of sports aiming to attract new audiences.
It is currently taking over urban areas.
“We were approached by Basketball NSW to host a three-on-three basketball event which will be the newest sport at the 2020 Olympic Games,” Newman said.
“It’s the sport that is taking over urban areas; it’s exciting, it’s fast-paced and it allows us to get it out of the indoor stadium.”
Newman said lay-ups and slam dunks would be the norm with junior and seniors set to play on half courts at the high school.
“Three on three basketball really is a completely different game to five on five where you usually have one player taking the shots while the other four watch,” he said.

“In three-on-three, you need to be more clever about how you use your players and there is a focus on ability.
“There will be heaps of lay-ups and it will all be on a half court.”
The original location at The Westport Club would have provided a picturesque backdrop for players, but with rain forecast, the decision was made to move.
It is the perfect lead-up to next month’s Seaside Classic.
“With the Seaside Classic to be held here in November we thought it was a good way to rustle up a few numbers,” Newman said.
“We also want our members exposed to three on three after so many years of being exposed to five on five.”
The social Corporate Cup will be held on Friday night from 6pm.
The junior competition will run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday and the seniors will play on Sunday between midday and 4pm.
Council is also excited to partner with CLB3X3, The Westport Club and the Port Macquarie Basketball Association to bring a unique and exciting sporting event to the region.
