The group will compete with hundreds of fire fighters across the state on October 20, but Seth Vagg said it won’t be about their end time.
“Lots of groups take the Sydney Eye Tower challenge as that – a challenge – but for us, this year was all about trying to raise as much money as we can for MND research,” Mr Vagg said.
“Since signing up for the climb last year we have learnt a lot about the disease and it really is horrendous.
“Through our fund raising events and talking to people we are hoping to educate people about how bad it can be.
“Last year we only raised a few thousand dollars but this year we have put most of our time and effort into that and we have now raised over $18,000 with more flowing in.
“Over the last few months we have hosted a number of Bunnings barbecues, a golf day and a bowls day all raising money and we are just so thankful to the Hastings community for coming out and supporting us so we can do the climb.”
It is the second time the group have taken part in the challenge and say they already have plans to do it again next year.
“A group of us did the climb last year and we raised a few thousand dollars and this year we have a few new members and had a real focus on the fund raising side of the challenge,” he said.
“When we have been out fund raising it has been so eye opening to have people come up and donate and when we say thank you, they tell us about one of their family members who went through MND and it really hits home.
“And when we are climbing each floor is dedicated to someone who has or who had MND which is really inspirational.
“We are doing this because we want to help find a cure for MND.”
The group head to Sydney in less than a week before taking part in the challenge on October 20.
