Works to replace the bridge are set to start on October 15.
The existing timber bridge will be demolished and replaced with a new single span timber bridge as part of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s ongoing bridge works maintenance program.
The project is expected to take three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
A total bridge closure will be necessary to undertake the work in a safe and efficient manner, and as a result, Stoney Creek Road will be closed between Sunny Corner Road and Pembrooke Road.
Detours for local residents will be via Pembrooke Road with light vehicles directed along Redbank Road and heavy vehicles directed along Beechwood Road due to the load limit on the Redbank Road rail bridge.
Digital signboards advising motorists of the road closure and detour routes are in place.
These works were originally planned for late September, however the council delayed the works to attend to emergency repair works on Stoney Creek Bridge and Kindee Bridge.
More than $6 million will be invested during 2018/19 to ensure the ongoing accessibility and safety of the region’s extensive bridge network.
