Omnicare Alliance will stage its second regional dementia conference from March 28 to 29, 2019 at Sails Port Macquarie.

It follows the success of the 2017 conference.

The RED Conference, A Regional Experience in Practical Dementia Care has been developed to provide a regional perspective on the work being done around dementia and dementia care.

Over the course of the two days, delegates will hear from Australian and international experts and specialists providing practical hands-on approaches to dementia care to support people to live well with dementia.

Lesley Palmer from Scotland’s Stirling University and Professor Joseph Ibrahim from Monash University, Melbourne, have also been confirmed as keynote speakers.

The program will cover a variety of topics to suit all including people living with dementia, carers, service providers, care staff, field workers, medical professionals, clinicians and the wider community.

Joint CEOs John Carroll and Raymond Gouck said: “We are very excited to launch our 2019 Regional Experience in Practical Dementia Care conference.

“We believe innovative and exciting practices and programs are being facilitated worldwide, including here in regional NSW and feel the RED Conference will showcase some of these,” they said.

The conference’s overall program will also feature for the first time a pre-conference masterclass with Dr Cameron Camp.

The masterclass, on enabling persons with memory impairment to learn new tasks, is aimed at nurses working in memory care settings, diversional therapists, rehabilitation professionals, aged care educators, allied health professionals and family carers.

With Myall Lakes, the Port Macquarie-Hastings and Tweed Heads featuring in the top three dementia prevalence rates in state electoral districts, the conference will provide an opportunity for people from the Mid North Coast, North Coast, New England, Great Lakes, Tweed and Hunter regions to come together and learn from industry experts.

Each day in the two-day program will feature a series of presentations prior to lunch and move into hands-on, real-world workshops across the afternoon, where attendees will be able to take away practical approaches that can be immediately implemented to support people living with dementia in the home and other care environments.

The conference is open to anyone with an interest in the field of dementia, in the care of people living with dementia and for those living with dementia, with the focus on living well with dementia.
