The annual event is a showstopper with riders leaving Port Macquarie before heading to Wauchope, Kew, Laurieton and back to Bonny Hills.

Ride organiser Leonie Tuner said the ride is all about raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

“We have been doing the ride for a number of years now and it is all about raising vital funds for breast cancer research,” Ms Turner said.

“It is such an important cause and any money we raise will do directly to helping those with cancer.

“We create quite a spectacle when we ride through towns with everyone dressed in pink but I do think we get the message across and we do raise a bit of money for breast cancer research.”

According to Breast Cancer Network Australia, in 2016 15,930 women and 150 men were diagnosed with breast cancer, and on average, 43 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer everyday.

“The goal is to get to zero breast cancer deaths by 2030 and to do that more research needs to be done,” she said.

“Both men and women can be diagnosed with breast cancer so it is vital that we get the whole community behind us to try and help as much as we can.”

For the Pink Ribbon Ride in 2018, riders will leave from Oliver's in Port Macquarie heading to Wauchope, Kew, Laurieton and back to the Bonny Hills’ Tavern for lunch.

Riders will assemble at Oliver’s Real Food at the Gateway Service Centre, Oxley Hwy, Port Macquarie from 9.30am before departing at 10.30am sharp.

“We have been really lucky to have Oliver’s come on board as a starting point for the ride this year and we are thankful to all our sponsors who are supporting us.

“When we get to Bonny Hills we will have a barbecue lunch and are inviting the community to come along and take part in the fun. We will have prizes for the best dressed riders as well as a great raffle which will be drawn at lunch.

“And if you want to take part in the ride find some pink clothes and turn up on the day to take part.”
