John and Jenny Stein of Port Macquarie were among a contingent of drivers who loaded up their cars and filled their hearts with kindness to bring food, produce and financial aid to families impacted by the big dry in Narrabri.
Along with Wayne Lewis and Trish Dwyer, the couple were not prepared for what they saw when they arrived.
“We were just devastated to see it,” Jenny said.
“Every year they would have a water-skiing event on Narrabri lake. This year they can’t – there is not a drop of water in it.
“You can see it on the television but when you are out there it is 10 times worse than you can imagine.”
The families accepting drop-offs were grateful for the coastal support.
The Beach to Bush Brothers are accepting donations.
