The not to be missed event will be on Saturday, October 27, at The Westport Club and will coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Pink High Tea is hosted by the fabulous volunteer team behind the Port Macquarie Mother’s Day Classic (MDC) with funds raised from the event being donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s research projects into prevention and treatment – with a goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.

Nationally, one in eight women and approximately one in 700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime in Australia.

Eight people die from the disease every day.

In the Port Macquarie-Hastings area specifically, breast cancer is among the top three common cancers, with a higher than average breast cancer incidence rate and mortality rate in this region.

Carmen Abi-Saab, local MDC Co-Event Manager said the Pink High Tea aims to bring people from the local community together and put the spotlight on the disease.

The event will contribute to the volunteer crew’s ongoing fundraising efforts for breast cancer research and in past years has sold out before the day.

“It will be an opportunity for people to enjoy a great afternoon with friends and family,” Ms Abi-Saab said.

“The Westport Club team has designed a delicious menu of sweet and savoury treats just for our event.

“People can enjoy their High Tea with a glass of bubbles, tea or coffee, listen to some live entertainment, and hear from some inspirational locals about their own experiences with breast cancer.

“Plus we’ll have lucky door prizes, fun activities, raffles and a silent auction – all helping to raise funds but get in quick as tickets go fast.”

The event will be emceed by Cass Catsoulis, breakfast radio co-host from Hit Mid North Coast 102.3 and 105.1, who is excited to be helping out such an important event, with breast cancer a cause close to her heart.

Both Jess Higgins and Bron Watson, local MDC Ambassadors who participated in the Mother’s Day Classic fun run/walk event in May, will also be sharing more of their breast cancer experience at the event, highlighting the importance of early detection and research into treatment programs.

“Research is the only way to prevent deaths and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated,” she said.

“We couldn’t offer this event without the involvement of local businesses. We’re grateful to The Westport Club for their support of both our Mother’s Day Classic event for the past two years, as well as the Pink High Tea.

“We also have some new partners involved with the Pink High Tea including Sue Roach Nutrimetics, Green Caffeen swap n go coffee cups, and Inner Vision Surf n Skate who are all helping to cover the ticket costs of our official speakers and VIPs.”

Jenny Edmunds, community and sports manager at The Westport Club said they were excited to be hosting the event again.

“This is the second year we’ve been associated with the Pink High Tea event and we’re pleased to be able to make a significant contribution to the quality of community life, particularly with the impact of breast cancer in our very own community,” Ms Edmunds said.

On the day the volunteer team will also be announcing the results of the funds raised through this year’s 2018 Mother’s Day Classic which was held May 13.
