Final preparations are underway for Chris Wright, Bill Perferment, Neil Phillips and Ross Crawford as they prepared to journey from Port Macquarie to Wagga Wagga on the Beach to Bush Charity Ride.
Leaving Port Macquarie on Thursday, October 4, the core group of men will be on the road for four days raising funds for Mia Stewart, Chris Wright’s great niece who was born with a rare condition called Congenital Femoral Deficiency (CFD).
Mia and her family are trying to raise over $300,000 to get her to the United States to have life-changing surgery and Mr Wright said every extra dollar helps.
“It has been a long process for Mia and her family as they have had to raise enough money for the surgery as well as eight weeks post operation in Florida,” Mr Wright said.
“They have been fundraising in Wagga Wagga for the last few years and finally they are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel with Mia booked to head to the USA in February.
“I always said I was going to help out in some way so I guess this trip is a long time in the making. We aren’t at the $300,000 mark yet but I am confident we will get there in the end.
“I decided to make the Beach to Bush Charity Ride my way of helping to raise funds and so far I have been overwhelmed by community support.”
The foursome along with Toni Wright in the support car will be heading off from the Breakwall in Port Macquarie on Thursday and hope the community will get behind them.
“I have been absolutely blown away by how much local business and community support we have received and when I am out on the bike everyone asks what’s going on,” he said.
“People have been very curious about everything and it is great that we can raise awareness about CFD and some money to help Mia and the family.
“The local Port Macquarie Classic Bike Club have been fantastic as well as other groups and on Thursday we will be having a little gathering from 7am at the Breakwall with help from Breakwall HQ cafe so people are invited to come along and see us before we leave around 9.30am.”
To help Mia get the life saving surgery she needs head to the Beach to Bush for Mia Facebook page or to Mia’s Big Adventure Facebook page to donate and keep up to date on what is going on.
