A YOUNG karate star has been given a helping hand by Tacking Point Lions Club to compete at a national competition this September.

The Tacking Point Lions donated $770 for safety equipment and to assist six-year-old Akshara Sanaw from the Kyokushin Karate Port Macquarie Dojo.
Akshara will compete this month in the Australian IKO National Kyokushinkai Karate championships.
Akshara has already started to master some of the complicated skills of Kyokushinkai Karate and is starting to understand and learn the Japanese terminology of this martial art style.
She is trained by Sensei Melinda Baksi who is a IKO Kyokushinkai Karate black belt instructor with 32 years’ training and teaching experience, and an IKO qualified international judge.
Sensei Melinda is from the North Bondi Dojo in Sydney, which is run by Shihan Tockar 7th degree black belt, from IKO Japan.
Duncan Wyndham from Tacking Point Lions said helping young people achieve their true potential was a cornerstone of what the Tacking Point Lions Club was all about.
“In the short time Akshara has been involved in karate it has been amazing how much she has advanced and Sensei Melinda believes Akshara has the potential to become a champion in Kyokushinkai Karate in years to come,” Mr Wyndham said.
“It’s our privilege to help her along the way. It is also a pleasure to assist the Kyokushin Karate Port Macquarie Dojo, who as part of their curriculum, with no financial gain, help kids with various physical and mental challenges, such as ADHD, vision impairment, and mild autism.”
