The pink lady silhouettes, on display in the garden area of Port Macquarie Library on September 21, were complete with messages of hope and support.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Breast Cancer Support Group staged the mini-field of women event on behalf of the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

The initiative provides an opportunity for the public to come together to pay tribute to all those affected by breast cancer.  

Port Macquarie-Hastings Breast Cancer Support Group coordinator Judith Hutchesson said the mini-field of women was a tribute to those who had lost their battle with breast cancer and those currently fighting the battle.

The event coincided with the support group’s 15^th birthday.

Breast cancer nurse specialist Joanne Woodlands said the group was a true peer support group.

She said women were powerful then they came together and supported each other.

Mayor Peta Pinson launched the event with a pink ribbon cutting before supporters heard from speakers and enjoyed morning tea.

Cr Pinson paid tribute to the support of women.

Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said it was such a poignant and symbolic gesture to come together to remember those who had lost their battle with breast cancer.

A candle of remembrance was lit during the event.

Aussie Dragonflies member Pam Jackson spoke about the International Breast Cancer Paddlers’ Commission World Regatta at Florence in July.

Some 46 people from the North Coast took part in the regatta which attracted 132 teams from across the world.
