Between 6.30am – 9.30am the forecourt will be a hub of activity as Port Macquarie bike riders come together to celebrate fitness, fun and free food.
In 2018 NSW Bike Week will run from Saturday 22 to Sunday 30 September.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council are working partnership with Transport NSW to host the breakfast raising awareness of bike safety said council director Jeffery Sharp.
“Cycling is a great active mode of transport, and a fun way to stay fit and healthy that can be enjoyed by the whole family,” Mr Sharp said.
“From scenic cycle ways and mountain bike trails to competition race tracks, our region offers many opportunities for people to get on their bike and enjoy the outdoors.”
The key objectives of NSW Bike Week are to increase the use of local cycling infrastructure for transport and recreation, provide a safe and secure environment for new and less confident cyclists to improve their cycling skills and to educate the community on road safety.
“Council are committed to providing our community with safe and accessible options to enjoy cycling, such as the shared paths and bike racks being installed at Westport Park, which is a popular spot for kids to learn to ride their bikes locally,” he said.
“Council encourages everyone whether you’re riding to work or not, to make a pit stop at the Glasshouse forecourt for a bite to eat on Thursday.
“And join us in raising awareness of all things cycling in our local community.”
NSW Bike Week is an annual event that aims to raise the profile of cycling as a healthy, easy, low cost and environmentally friendly alternative to driving for short trips in the local community.
