Ten Rural Fire Service units were supported by crews from across the Mid North Coast who were summoned to provide assistance as the blaze crept to within one kilometre of homes on Port Macquarie’s North Shore.
Contingents from across the Mid North Coast were among those who arrived to help with the National Parks and Wildlife Service assisting firefighters at the Kempsey end.
Their efforts were also well-supported from the air with the DC-10 water bomber Nancy Bird called in from the RAAF Base in Richmond.
“We know that the vast majority of residents did not have a Bushfire Survival Plan during this fire,” North Shore RFS said.
“We urge everyone to attend this Saturday and speak to us - prepare yourself, prepare your family, prepare your home.
“A lot of the North Shore didn't burn in the 2017 fire, and thanks to the hard work of fire crews, most of this unburnt bush is in close proximity to all the homes. The threat is not over.”
