Mayor Peta Pinson put forward a mayoral minute to the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council meeting on September 19 to recognise Mr Walesby.
The mayoral minute received unanimous support.
The aviation industry leader, tireless advocate for Rotary and community worker died recently at the age of 100.
Mr Walesby captained the first commercial plane to arrive on the opening day of the Port Macquarie Airport in 1955 and was also a member of Rotary for more than 60 years, joining in 1956.
“He also served in the Royal Australian Air Force, was also a skilled pilot, an accomplished aviation manager, author, Christian and family man,” the mayoral minute said.
When Mr Walesby retired from the aviation industry, he was instrumental in the formation of Rotary Lodge and was the committee chair for the first seven years.
This contribution was marked with a newly opened wing at Rotary Lodge named in his honour.
“On behalf of council, condolences are extended to his family and friends,” the mayoral minute said.
