On tour as part of the ArtExpress exhibition the selections depicts a snapshot of what visual arts students’ were creating during their final year at school.
The pieces range from paint and drawing, to textiles, sculpture and time based form (video). They also come from a variety of government and non-government schools across New South Wales said ArtExpress project officer Brigiat Maltese.
“The artwork in ArtExpress comes from the very best of what visual arts students undertaking their HSC in 2017 created,” Ms Maltese said.
“There are a variety of different mediums covering a range of themes from the highly personal to abstract works, but the whole exhibition is a balanced look at what the students thought was important.
“These art pieces make up 50 percent of the visual arts course, which is grown out of a very intense research process so the work that is on display is highly thought out and created over a long time.”
Each piece has a statement and description attached where the artist has explained their process to get to the final artwork.
“After such an intense research period the students understanding of art has been shaped by a number of artists and so walking around the exhibition you are able to get an insight into how they got to where they did,” she said.
“Each piece is a deeply personal exploration of an issue or theme and is quite sophisticated and highly intentioned.”
The exhibition will run until November 4 and was opened on Friday, September 14 by Lake Cathie Public School principal Jock Garvin and Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peta Pinson in front of a great crowd.
“The opening was actually really great and we had a former student at St Josephs Primary Wauchope, Reid Major, come home to show his work.
“Coming to the exhibition there really is something for everyone. We have bright colours, abstract and a humourous take on issues night next to deeply personal pieces so come along and have a look.”
