This year’s competition has both a men’s and women’s social and premier league.
The men’s premier league got underway with some tight and hard fought matches.
In arguably the match of the round it was a new team of youngsters in Coastal Commercial Linings edging Evolution Road Wealth 2-1.
Coastal are led by NSW CCC rep Joshua Goldberg and a number of Port representative players in Billy Sprague, Ben Howarth and Corey Fletcher and their running game proved too dominant for Evolution Road.
Peter Gleeson ran rampant for Baker IT showing he’s in great form leading in to State Cup, however it wasn’t enough as Port Workwear grabbed a strong 4-3 win.
Gleeson’s passing game set up all three of Baker IT’s tries.
For Workwear, Koby Smith and Kieran Gallagher steered their team to victory.
The women’s premier league saw two of Port Macquarie’s recently named NSW players in Tahney Luck and Anna Gleeson lead their teams to first round wins.
Gleeson proved too hard for Watson’s Caravans to stop with Baker IT claiming a 4-1 win.
Meanwhile, Luck guided JKM Plumbing to a 7-4 win over McGrath Estate Agents.
In the match of the round in the women’s social competition, Constables Printing beat the Salty Pretzels 5-0.
Whilst the Pretzels tasted defeat it’s great to see some of our young representative juniors coming through in Olivia Boys, Rhiannon Slater, Sophie Hillier, Kohdi Edmondson and Emily Prince.
They’ll definitely strengthen as the competition progresses.
The matches to look out for on Tuesday night is the 2016 grand final replay between JKM Plumbing and Laurieton Hotel at 6:55 in the women’s premier league along with the clash between Adenbrook Homes and Port Workwear at 6:20 in the mens.
A reminder that our mixed competition will get underway in the coming weeks with registrations open now, so get your team in for what is a great social competition.
