In 2015 the station was abandoned when the crew moved to upgraded facilities on Central Road. The future of the building has since been unknown.
After workers levelled the old station on September 13, state member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams revealed that an auction on part of the land is forthcoming.
“One lot is owned by Crown Lands and the other owned by Fire and Rescue NSW,” Mrs Williams said.
“This dual ownership had created difficulties in the disposal of the site as the buildings straddle both lots.
“Whilst Fire and Rescue NSW was working with Crown Lands and Property NSW on a disposal solution, the former station became a continual target for vandals and squatters and also suffered serious damage in a fire.
“As a result, the structural integrity of the building was compromised. All affected stakeholders have since agreed to demolish the building which is anticipated to be completed next week.
“The portion of the land owned by Fire and Rescue NSW will be sold via auction, with the remaining land to be returned to Crown Lands.”
