The show will be held on Thursday, September 20 and sees a real change of pace from the group’s more traditional repertoire.
This time they are bringing to the audience light, bright, jazzy music as well as including in the program old favourites such as Danny Boy.
The harmonious renditions of songs from many styles and eras, for which The Hastings Choristers are famous, will delight the audience.
Musical director Robyn Ryan OAM is very excited about the upcoming concert and explained that “although performing many classical big-book works in a variety of languages, the choir also revels in pop jazz folk idiom.”
Robyn added that Hastings Choristers have taken great delight this year in seeing audiences grow, as choral music becomes very popular in the Hastings.
In addition, The Choristers are teaming up with a Jazz Band Reds Quintet in this concert. Reds Quintet has been a fixture at the Bago Vineyards Jazz Days for over twenty years, and at jazz Sundays at Panthers and the Westport Club.
REDS band consists of Glenn Moore (trumpet), Jock Garven (saxophone), Bob Barnett (piano and vocals), Rod Ward (bass) and Andrew Harrison (drums and vocals).
The band write most of their own arrangements and whilst the emphasis is always on jazz, audiences can expect to hear a wide range of styles including rhythm and blues and even some jazz/rock.
Glenn Moore, band leader, said REDS is really looking forward to working with the Hastings Choristers once more.
“We will be presenting some of our favourite pieces, including a Miles Davis set from the Kind Of Blue album, and a couple of great vocal pieces featuring Andrew and Bob,” he said.
Part of the Hastings Choristers’ mission is to foster the development of talented young singers in the community. Therefore the Jazzin’ It Up concert also includes some solo performances from extremely talented young locals, Francesca Plentinger, Greg Mitchell and Hugo Bittar.
These year 10 students will wow the audience with a variety of numbers such as Fix You, Yesterday and Mr Cellophane, while Hastings Choristers popular female ensemble Cantabile will also be featuring in the concert, providing their own special interpretation of a variety of songs.
The concert will be held between 6.30pm to 8pm in the new Cape Ballroom at Sails Resort in Port Macquarie, with bar facilities available.
Tickets are $20 adults, $10 school students and are available at Glasshouse Box Office or at the door on the night.
