Mr Lawrence has less than a fortnight to go before he says no to alcohol for a month as a part of Life Education’s Ocsober campaign
“I had heard about the Ocsober campaign before but I had never done it,” Mr Lawrence said.
“This year I have not had a great few months health-wise and then I saw it was on again and figured why not.
“It is a bit of a scary prospect giving up alcohol for a whole month but I think it will be good for me.”
Ocsober is a national fundraising initiative by Life Education to reduce drug and alcohol related harm in young people.
Life Education’s programs empower children to make the right choices for a safe life, free from harm.
By placing preventive education at the core of their work, they aim to help children have the confidence to make safer and healthier choices now and in the future.
For Ocsober the challenge is to lose the booze for the month of October and to get your friends and family to support you with a donation.
All money raised through Ocsober will help Life Education – the organisation behind the iconic education mascot Healthy Harold the Giraffe - to provide the vital education Aussie kids need to make good choices about their health, relationships, alcohol and drugs.
“Aside from the health benefits from not drinking alcohol for a month, fund raising for a great cause like the Life Education van is also a great reason to join Ocsober,” he said.
“I signed up at the start of September and for the whole month they have been sending me tips and getting me ready for the month which has been really great.
“I feel like I am as prepared as I can be and now it is just a matter of fundraising and not drinking.”
