According the NSW SES Port Macquarie unit, the man slipped down the embankment on Saturday afternoon with his fall to the bottom broken by a tree.
SES crews were supported by Port Macquarie Police and Ambulance NSW as they rigged up for the vertical rescue.
A member of the public, who went to assist the man, also had to be lifted to safety.
The man sustained minor injuries.
“The rescued gentleman was very grateful and relieved. The member of the public was encouraged to become (an SES) volunteer,” the SES crew posted on its Facebook page.
