Their pennants bowls team will head to Dubbo this weekend hoping to continue an impressive underdog run that has already seen them claim the section and zone titles.
Bowls organiser Bernie Biddle admitted they “probably weren’t expected to win either”.
“We weren’t supposed to win anything; we shocked them,” he said.
“It’s the first time we’ve been at this level in a couple of years because bowls is a hard game to play; I’ve been doing it for 30 years.
“Our big year was back in 1991 and it’s been about three years since we’ve won a flag. This is our top grade at the moment because we’re a struggling little club now.”
Panthers defeated Lake Cathie in the sectional final before they accounted for Park Beach in the zone final.
Biddle said the club were hopeful of a strong showing at Dubbo.
“We’ll play five games of bowls across three days and you’ve pretty much got to win them all,” he said.
“If you lose the first game you’re still a chance, but you’ve got to make everyone else lose one as well; it’s the same as any round robin setup.
“We hope to win the state number three pennant in Dubbo.”
