Coach Laurence Barlow has been awarded the title of Coach of the Month by Northern NSW Football.

Coach Laurence, as he is known to the players, is a football coach at St Columba Anglican School (SCAS) and he also works as a Football Mid North Coast Skill Acquisition Program Coach.

In addition, Mr Barlow is part of the newly formed IONA Football Club based at the school, where he coaches the Under-6 Glory, the Under-6 Mariners and the Under-11 Jets.

“I love the sport. I love football,” Mr Barlow said. “There’s nothing quite like watching a young player demonstrate something you have taught them and show the same passion for the game.”

Mr Barlow has been coaching football for 25 years. He was nominated for the award by a grateful group of parents.

St Columba’s K-12 sports coordinator, Tony Judge, says the rapid growth of the new IONA Football Club is a testament to the commitment and expertise of coaching staff like Mr Barlow.

“IONA football has had a great first season and the SCAS Skill Development Program, School Holiday Program and Academy programs are all very well attended,” said Mr Judge.

“This success is due in a large part to the passion and knowledge of our coaching staff. This award for coach Laurence is a fitting recognition for the role he has played. It’s a big deal and something the whole coaching staff are very pleased to see.”
