Some 33 community organisations attended the Volunteer Expo 2018 on August 7 to showcase their services, programs and volunteer opportunities.
Port Macquarie Hastings Legacy volunteer Peter Bruce said attending the expo gave exposure to the organisation.
Legacy is a voluntary organisation supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and volunteers drawn from all walks of life.
Mr Bruce, who is ex-military, said assisting as a volunteer was about being involved, linking with the community and helping, in Legacy’s case, defence members and their families.
Port Macquarie Hastings Legacy has 23 active legatees and about 12 friends of Legacy who help with fundraising.
Port Macquarie Hastings Legacy volunteer Alf Smith, who spent 21 years in the military, said he was in a position to give back.
“I think if you talk to volunteers, that’s a common theme – giving something back and helping the community,” he said.
Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre’s Volunteer HQ organised the Volunteer Expo at Port Macquarie Panthers.
Mid North Coast Volunteer HQ coordinator Nuscha Van Nieuwkerk said the expo was set up for volunteers and organisations to connect and engage, as well as promote the volunteer industry and the organisations doing a wonderful job in our community.
“Communities would not be the same without the work of volunteers who work tirelessly,” she said.
Mayor Peta Pinson and Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker addressed the Volunteer Expo.
