The year 2018 marks the 28th anniversary of the sister city agreement between Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Handa City Council in Japan.
Handa Higashi Senior High School will travel to Port Macquarie for a five-day study tour starting on July 27 as part of the sister city agreement between the two regions.
The study tour group includes 12 students who will be hosted by students and their families from Heritage Christian School.
The students will be accompanied by the new principal of Handa Higashi High School, Mr Matsuda, and one of the school’s English teachers, Mr Kato.
This is an opportunity for the students to learn about education in Australia as they immerse themselves in school life within the classroom and experience our culture and attractions.
The students will also visit the Port Macquarie CSU Campus.
A memorandum of understanding between the Port Macquarie CSU Campus and the Nihon Fukushi University in Handa was signed in 2018.
And it won’t be all study for the students during their visit, with a crocodile show at Billabong Zoo and whale watching cruise sure to be big hits.
The sister city relationship with the Japanese City of Handa was officially formed in 1990 and includes a student exchange program.
The relationship enables us to foster international peace and goodwill, enriching the community with a broader understanding of other nations, their traditions, customs and cultures.
The relationship also provides the opportunity for economic growth across a host of trade, industry and business sectors.
