A draft Media Relations Policy will go on exhibition for public comment from July 23.
A report to the July 18 council meeting said a recent review of the policy indicated it was still broadly relevant in intent, however, it required updating to ensure the council had a policy that was current and provided a clear approach to media liaison.
The updated policy aims to provide for a clear, yet flexible approach to addressing media inquiries and allows for subject matter experts to address media inquiries with appropriate authorisation and approval processes in place.
Cr Rob Turner said the review evolved out of the communications portfolio.
He said the council would get better outcomes through communication with this updated policy and he encouraged lots of comments.
The revised policy will go on exhibition for 28 days from July 23.
A further report is planned to be tabled at the September council meeting.
The report will detail the submissions received from the public during the exhibition period.
Media relations policies from other local government organisations were reviewed to assist with the policy update.
