Kate Forrest, marketing and programs librarian said they have been overwhelmed by how the community has responded to the speaker series.
“We wanted a way for people to come together to learn about something interesting and we came up with the Local Talks program at the beginning of 2018,” Ms Forrest said.
“The Local Talks program is where we get three local people into the library on a Saturday to talk on a common theme.
“It has been very popular with the community and we are averaging around 60 people at each of the monthly talks.”
Ms Forrest said the diverse range of topics has been a great success.
“The first talk we did was for International Women’s Day and since then we have had people come in and talk about recycling, mindfulness and health and coming up we have talks on death and dying, singing and mental health,” she said.
“The feedback we have been getting has been very positive and I think that is because getting locals to talk about a topic adds a personal touch which people seem to be loving.
“The talks start with each speaker talking for 10 minutes and then we have questions.
“We schedule the talk to last about an hour and then have morning tea but as the months have gone on people have been hanging around for a lot longer and chatting which has been fantastic.
“The program runs from March to November and at this stage we are hoping to run it again next year as it has been so popular.”
The talk in August will be on death and dying, on August 11, from 10am. For more information click here.
