And the locals again rose to the challenge in turning out to support the Newcastle Jets and the two Football Mid North Coast representative sides.
Despite some apprehensive moments leading up to the match, the community again welcomed the Jets back to town in strong numbers.
Football Mid North Coast chairman Mike Parsons gave the thumbs up to the community for again turning out in force.
“It’s so pleasing as chairman; I can’t describe in words how appreciative I am of our football community,” Parsons said.
“It was an increase on last year; the crowd were coming in earlier and the atmosphere was electric.
“Every time our rep sides made a foray into the Newcastle Jets half, the crowd roared with excitement and I think we were probably a bit more credible in our performance this year.”
While the on-field score finished 9-0, it could have been a few more if not for the efforts of goalkeepers Curtis Jones and Jacob Lyttle.
“Despite the fact they were certainly outclassed, they certainly were proud and played some good football especially in defence,” Parsons said.
“Both goalkeepers were outstanding and again had the crowd cheering with excitement with some spectacular saves.”
Parsons said he wasn’t surprised the crowd figure was a slight increase on last year.
“It was everything I hoped for and wished for,” he said.
“You’re always apprehensive that Plan A works – the publicity and marketing works, the message gets out and the football public supports the event.
“It was an outstanding success; we built on the success of last year and not only replicated it, but improved on it.”
