The three day event to be held in Port Macquarie later this week – July 25 – 27 – is a chance for young people aged 15 – 25 to hear from a range of speakers from all walks of life who have overcome challenges and come out on top.
Co-Founder and Luminosity chair, Kate Wood-Foye said final preparations were being made for a stellar 2018 summit.
“This is our strongest line up yet – we wanted a diverse and powerful range of story tellers, entrepreneurs, elite sports people, artists, academics and visionaries to join us in 2018,” Mrs Wood-Foye said.
“And we are thrilled to be able to present this year’s lineup.
“Each of these speakers has a unique and powerful story to tell, skills to teach and a secret to share on how they made their dangerous idea a reality.”
The sessions include presentations, hands on master classes and social networking opportunities.
The program features an exciting line up of international speakers, master classes and activities to inspire and excite all our future leaders who will be in attendance.
This year the inspiring lineup will include Dr Angela Jay, Future Crunch, solo sailor Jessica Watson OAM, Australian Deadly Ninja Warrior Jack Wilson, Mike Rolls, Mikhara Ramsing, Benny Owen, Lady Gaga's stylist Nixi Killick and Shelley Watts.
“Each year the overarching Summit theme is ‘dangerous ideas for success’ and each of the three days has a theme,” she said.
“This year it’s all about empowering students to inspire, challenge, excel.
“Luminosity ensures that regional youth hear these key stories and can apply it to achieve success and happiness in their own lives.”
Say no to domestic violence
Mid North Coast Local Health District chief executive Stewart Dowrick said the local health district was very proud to be the presenting partner for Luminosity, and to support future leaders from the mid north coast and beyond.
“I am particularly pleased to see that our own Dr Angela Jay, who is a White Ribbon Advocate, is a guest speaker at the event this year,” Mr Dowrick said.
“Dr Jay has an important message for young people, about how important it is to be aware of the potential dangers involved in online interactions.
“Young people have an important role to play in ensuring that we eliminate violence in our community, and I am pleased to see that an event such as Luminosity is committed to this.”
Inspirational sailor
Jessica Watson is the youngest person to sail solo around the world and despite her early struggles with dyslexia, she became a storyteller, with an international bestseller and recently published her second book ‘Indigo Blue.’
Miss Watson navigated some of the world’s most remote oceans and survived seven knockdowns and 210 days alone at sea to become the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop around the world at just 16.
On completion of the voyage, Jessica was met by the then Prime Minister who declared her an Australian hero.
In a simple speech that won admiration across Australia and around the world, she responded to the Prime Minister by announcing that she disagreed with him, that she didn’t consider herself a hero—just an ‘ordinary person, who had a dream, worked hard at it and proved that anything really is possible.’
She will be presenting a session on resilience and taking on the world.
