Laurieton’s Krystal Clarke is on the way to achieving her dreams of becoming a professional tennis player, after she achieved the title of NSW Country Champion at a tournament in Forster.

The July event is one of the biggest NSW tennis tournaments of the year and Krystal took out the open division.

Over the three days, Krystal played four matches against other number one seed players.

She versed one of her good friends Laia Pasini from Forster Tennis Club in the final.

“It was a tough match and was very close,” Krystal said.

Krystal took out the match after notching up 6-2 in the first set and 7-5 in the second.

The girls were paired up to play doubles together, which they won.

Krystal will play at two International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments in Brisbane over two weeks.

She was on her way to Queensland when the Courier spoke to her on Tuesday, July 10.

“I’m feeling really confident and I’m playing well,” Krystal said.

“I just want to do the best I can.”

From the tournaments, Krystal will gain a world player ranking.

Krystal recently strained her abdominal muscle and has just been able to step back on to the courts.

“I’m hoping it holds up for these tournaments,” she said.

The 16-year-old said it was a fantastic experience to play against people of similar ages and to witness their training regime and performance on the court.

Krystal is aiming to make it to the Australia Open Junior Championships in January 2019.
