Fresh from a pre-season tournament win in China, the Newcastle Jets will return to Port Macquarie next Tuesday night (July 17).

The challenge now for the Mid North Coast sporting community is just like any sporting team – being consistent.

Football Mid North Coast chairman Mike Parsons prefers not to say last year’s effort can be improved on, but would rather it was fine tuned.

“I don’t think we do improve on last year,” Parsons said.

“We want to replicate it – because last year was a fantastic and enormous success, it gave us a blueprint.

“It’s going to be a lot simpler for us this time because we’ve got a footprint and we’ve overcome a few little obstacles such as lighting – we're ahead of the game on that.”

Last year’s match drew a crowd of more than 4000 spectators and Parsons believes that figure could swell because of the timing of the fixture.

“The only thing I would personally like to see is the whole football community – and sporting community in general – come along,” the chairman said.

“This year, with the school holidays on, it’s a great opportunity for the mum’s and dad’s and all the kids to really support their Jets who had a fantastic season last season.”

Parsons said it would be one more night for parents to keep their kids up a little longer than normal after they had probably been watching the World Cup in Russia.

“The World Cup is in its final stages, football is the flavour of the month and the Matildas have had a successful year,” Parsons said.

“Despite our early exit from the World Cup, the Socceroos performed to a credible standard.”

Parsons said the Jets Tour of the Mid North Coast was inclusive of all of the Mid North Coast despite the fixture being held at Regional Stadium with kick-off at 7.30pm.

“The players that are playing against the Jets come from every single club in our Premier League,” he said.

“It’s a good opportunity to support our Football Mid North Coast players as they ply their wares against some of the nations best.

“It gives them the opportunity to be on the big stage for that one evening.”

The Jets will visit Taree and Forster on the way up and will have a breakfast at the Westport Club the morning after.

“It’s a very inclusive visit,” Parsons said.

“The stadium is just the venue for this game, but it’s all about the whole region and I’d like the community to show the Jets we’re worthy of hosting an FFA Cup game.”

They will hold an open training session on Tuesday morning at Regional Stadium between 9.30am and 11am.

The A-League club will also hold a free clinic from 10am on Wednesday morning at Regional Stadium.
