More than 120 volunteer workers descended upon the Westport Primary School for a massive makeover of the school grounds on July 7.

Christians from ten local churches threw themselves into painting, mulching, trimming and cleaning, turning the school grounds into a picture postcard.

Westport Primary School principal Tony Johnston, said he was blown away by the support from the local community.

“I am deeply moved by the generosity of such a myriad of workers who came to bless one of Port Macquarie’s great schools,” Mr Johnston said.

“All of us at Westport Primary want to offer our thanks to the churches for their huge effort to support our local school.”

The army of volunteers led by Pastor Greg Campion from Grace Church banded together to form the first City Serve working bee which turned out to be a huge success.

“This is the first of a number of City Serve ventures that are being planned by the Port Macquarie Ministers Association in city,” Mr Campion said.

“And it was a great success with everyone coming together to help.”

Pastor Jeff Atherton mumbled through a painting mask that he was thrilled to see so many Christians working together to bring blessing to a very special school in our community.

The Seventh Day Adventist’s Red Bus offered drinks and refreshments and a crew from the Salvation Army cooked lunch for the workers to feast on.

The volunteer workers came from eight churches; Grace Church, The Point Church, Port Anglican Church, People Builders, Coastside, Lifeway Church, Honour Church, C3 Church, the Salvation Army and the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
